DEPARTMENT OF HEALTH
Division of Environmental Health
RULE NO: RULE TITLE
64E-5.650: Training for Imaging and Localization Studies
NOTICE IS HEREBY GIVEN that on October 20, 2009, the Department of Health, Division of Environmental Health, Bureau of Radiation Control, pursuant to Section 120.542, F.S., has issued an order.
The Order grants a variance from subsection 64E-5.650(2), F.A.C., for William C. Dixon, IV, M.D. The petition for a variance was received by the Department on August 25, 2009. Notice of receipt of the petition was published in the Florida Administrative Weekly on September 4, 2009. Subsection 64E-5.650(2), F.A.C., requires physicians seeking authorization to become an authorized user of radioactive materials on human beings for diagnostic purposes to obtain and document both, two hundred hours of instruction in basic radionuclide handling techniques applicable to the use of prepared radiopharmaceuticals, generators and reagent kits and, 500 hours of work experience and 500 hours of clinical experience, each under the supervision of an authorized user at a medical institution. William C. Dixon, IV, M.D., has demonstrated that granting the variance would meet the underlying purpose of Florida's radiation laws currently being promulgated to be compatible with federal laws which exist to ensure the safety of radiation workers, patients and the general public, and to ensure appropriate training and experience of an authorized user.
