Alterative Design Method for Screen Enclosures (Repealed)

PURPOSE:

The purpose and effect of the proposed rule is to comply with Ch. 2012-13, Laws of Florida, that directed the Florida Building Commission to establish a workgroup to assist the commission in developing a rule for implementing an alternative design method for screen enclosures that allows for the removal of a section of the screen to accommodate high-wind events consistent with the provisions of the Florida Building Code.

SUMMARY:

As mandated by law, the proposed rule provides for an alternative screen enclosure design to be required by the Florida Building Code.  The proposed alternative is a site-specific engineered design method which allows for cutting, retracting or removing of certain sections of the screen enclosure when winds are forecasted to exceed 75 mph.  The proposed alternative is limited in scope to aluminum screen enclosures and provides for labeling and replacement criteria for the screen panels that are designed to be cut.
