Overview

RULE:

69A-37.039	Prescribed Forms for Training and Certification
69A-37.065	Programs of Study and Vocational Courses

PURPOSE:

Section 633.45(1), F.S., requires the Division to (i) establish minimum standards for the employment and training of firefighters; (ii) establish minimum curriculum requirements for schools operated for the specific purpose of training firefighter recruits or firefighters; and (iii) issue certificates of competency to persons who, by reason of experience and completion of basic training, are especially qualified for particular aspects or classes of firefighter duties.

SUMMARY:

The proposed amendments to Rule 69A-37.039, F.A.C., will amend two current forms and add six new forms that will be used by the Division to determine whether a fire officer applicant meets certain training requirements to receive a voluntary certificate of competency from the Division. The proposed amendments to Rule 69A-37.065, F.A.C., will add two additional levels, Fire Officer III and Fire Officer IV, to the existing Fire Officer Program. This training program is being expanded to provide training opportunities for persons who serve as senior fire officers in volunteer and career fire department agencies. This program enhancement will improve alignment with the National Fire Protection Association (NFPA) 1021, Standard for Fire Officer Professional Qualifications (2009 Edition). The rule amendment will also adjust the program requirements at the existing Fire Officer I and II levels. The introduction of the Fire Officer III and IV levels along with the adjustments to the Fire Officer I and II level are recommended by the Firefighters Employment, Standards, and Training Council established by Section 633.31, F.S.
