Overview



	The Florida Department of Transportation (FDOT), District One, announces a hearing to which all persons are invited.

DATE AND TIME:	Thursday, February 7, 2019. Open house format at 5 p.m., formal presentation at 6 p.m., followed by a public comment period.

PLACE:	Veterans Park Recreation Center, 55 Homestead Road South, Lehigh Acres, FL 33936.

Subject:	FDOT, District One, is conducting a Project Development and Environment (PD&E) Study to provide conceptual design and engineering analysis for a proposed shared-use pathway along Able Canal from Harns Marsh to Joel Boulevard (CR 884) in Lee County. The purpose of this study is to create a continuous corridor for non-motorized travel that connects residential areas with public parks within the city of Lehigh Acres. The study will meet the requirements of the National Environmental Policy Act (NEPA) and other related federal and state laws, rules, and regulations. FDOT will present the Recommended ‘Build’ Alternative to construct a pathway along the north side of Able Canal where there is currently no continuous path. The ‘No-Build’ Alternative will also be presented. This hearing is being conducted to give interested persons an opportunity to review the proposed improvements under consideration and to express their views concerning the location, conceptual design, and social, economic, and environmental effects of the project. Persons wishing to submit written statements, in place of or in addition to verbal statements, may do so at the hearing or by sending them to Steven Andrews, FDOT District One, P.O. Box 1249, Bartow, FL 33831. All statements postmarked no later than Monday, February 18, 2019 will become a part of the public hearing record. Comments may also be submitted through the project website at www.swflroads.com/ablecanalpathway by clicking the “Get Involved” link on the left side of the page. All comments received by Monday, February 18, 2019 will become part of the public hearing record. Draft project documents will be available for public review from Thursday, January 17, 2019 to Monday, February 18, 2019 at the East County Regional Library, 881 Gunnery Road North, Lehigh Acres, FL 33971 and FDOT District One, Southwest Area Office, 10041 Daniels Parkway, Ft. Myers, FL 33913. The environmental review, consultation, and other actions required by applicable federal environmental laws for this project are being, or have been, carried out by FDOT pursuant to 23 U.S.C. §327 and a Memorandum of Understanding dated December 14, 2016 and executed by the Federal Highway Administration and FDOT.
