Overview



	The Florida Department of Transportation, District One announces a hearing to which all persons are invited.

DATE AND TIME:	Thursday, March 31, 2022. In-person open house begins at 5 p.m. Virtual and in-person presentation and testimony begin at 6 p.m.

Subject:	The Florida Department of Transportation (FDOT) invites you to a public hearing for the US 98 (State Road (SR) 35) Project Development & Environment (PD&E) Study from north of West Socrum Loop Road to south of County Road (CR) 54 in Polk County on Thursday, March 31, 2022. The purpose of this PD&E study is to identify and evaluate potential impacts that may result from widening US 98 (SR 35) from north of West Socrum Loop Road to south of CR 54 from two lanes to four lanes. The proposed improvements would require FDOT to acquire right-of-way to accommodate drainage facilities. No residential or business relocations are proposed. Existing access to properties along US 98 would change due to the addition of a median north of West Socrum Loop Road. The public hearing is being held to present information about the preferred alternative and engineering and environmental analysis completed to date. The hearing provides the opportunity for the public to offer feedback on the preferred alternative for the official hearing record. The Department has three ways to participate in the public hearing: through the live virtual event on March 31, 2022, at 6 p.m. www.swflroads.com/us98/socrumlooptocr54/, by attending the in-person event at the New Life Assembly of God, 8595 US Hwy 98 N., Lakeland, FL 33809 on March 31, 2022, at 5 p.m., or by viewing the materials online through the project website: www.swflroads.com/us98/socrumlooptocr54/. All hearing materials, including the project video, will be available online by March 24, 2022, prior to the live virtual event. A copy of the materials will also be displayed at the in-person event. You may choose any combination of the options provided to review the materials and to submit your comments. For more information on all participation options for the upcoming public hearing, visit the project website or contact the project manager (listed below). Project documents will also be available for public viewing from March 10, 2022, to April 14, 2022, at the Larry R. Jackson Branch Library, 1700 N Florida Ave, Lakeland, FL 33805 and at the FDOT District One Headquarters, 801 N. Broadway Ave., Bartow, FL 33830. They will also be available on the project website. FDOT is sending notices to all property owners, business owners, interested persons and organizations to provide the opportunity to give comments to FDOT regarding this project. While comments about the project are accepted at any time, please send your comments by April 14, 2022, to be included in the formal public hearing record. A summary of the hearing comments and responses will be available on the website approximately 30 days following the close of the comment period.
