6A-10.088

Florida McKinney-Vento Program Training and Identification

PURPOSE:

To ensure compliance with the Florida Department of Education’s Every Student Succeeds Act (ESSA) State Plan specific to education for homeless children and youth. The effect will include provisions regarding identification of homeless children and youth, support and required training for school district liaisons, and other matters relating to students experiencing homelessness.

SUMMARY:

The Office of Program Policy Analysis and Government Accountability (OPPAGA) conducted a study on the Florida McKinney-Vento Program (FMVP) and provided recommendations to the Florida Department of Education, including required training for school district McKinney-Vento liaisons and other relevant staff, and to require dissemination of a student housing questionnaire for identification. This rule incorporates these recommendations and is aligned to the ESSA State Plan.
