6A-1.0018

School Safety Requirements and Monitoring

PURPOSE:

This rule sets forth requirements relating to school safety and defining safety measures that schools are expected to meet. The effect of the amendment is to clarify requirements for emergency drills and safe-school officer discipline, update access control requirements, and incorporate legislative changes resulting from the 2025 session.

SUMMARY:

Office of Safe Schools (OSS) will refine the definition of “school facility,” define “exclusive zone” and “nonexclusive zone,” and align access control requirements with new legislation. Further changes simplify the requirements for active assailant drills and specify the types of Safe-school officer misconduct that must be reported to OSS. The district plan for cardiac emergencies and requirements for substitute teachers to receive safety plans have been added.
