The South Florida Water Management District announces a workshop to which all persons are invited.

The purpose of this rule development workshop is to develop Restricted Allocation Areas (“RAAs”) for the Sandstone aquifer located in Lehigh Acres and the mid-Hawthorn aquifer located in Cape Coral. During this rule development workshop, staff from the South Florida Water Management District (“District”) will present the draft technical documents for the Sandstone aquifer and the mid-Hawthorn aquifer, and preliminary draft rule language for Rules 40E-2.061, 40E-2.071, 40E-2.091, 40E-3.301, F.A.C., and the “Applicant’s Handbook for Water Use Permit Applications within the South Florida Water Management District” (“AH”). 
The intent of the RAAs is to clarify and support implementation of the existing maximum developable limit criteria in specified areas to account for the cumulative impacts of both consumptive use permit and domestic self-supply uses, which is designed to restrict future groundwater withdrawals to prevent minimum flow and minimum water level violations and protect the resource from significant harm. The District also proposes to amend Rules 40E-2.061 and 40E-2.071, F.A.C., to require general permits by rule for landscape irrigation at a single family dwelling or duplex, and noticed general permits, to comply with the RAA rules for the Sandstone aquifer and mid-Hawthorn aquifer.
