PURPOSE:

The Department is initiating rulemaking for Chapter 62-550, F.A.C., to incorporate the 2024 updates to the Federal Safe Drinking Water Regulations under Title 40 Code of Federal Regulations (CFR) Part 141 Subpart I. The Department is required to adopt these updates to maintain its delegation to implement the Safe Drinking Water Act. These rules establish the requirements public water systems must meet for the control of lead and copper in drinking water.

SUBJECT:

The Department is proposing to update Chapter 62-550, F.A.C., to incorporate and adopt revisions made to 40 CFR Part 141 Subpart I, as they relate to the recently promulgated Lead and Copper Rule Improvements, and as required by the Department’s Public Water System Supervision Primacy Agreement with U.S. EPA.
