PURPOSE:

The purpose of this rulemaking is to update regulations for the harvest of wild oysters from the Big Bend, which includes Dixie, Levy, and Citrus counties. The effects of this rulemaking would be to create a new management framework for wild oyster harvest from the Big Bend that is aligned with the current state of the resource.

SUBJECT:

The subject areas addressed in the rule development notice include additional applicable regulations; definitions; size limit; size limit tolerances; bag and vessel limits, harvest and possession limits; distribution of allowed harvest; seasons, open and closed periods; allowable gear, prohibited gear, harvest methods; sale and purchase requirements; open and closed areas; license requirements; oyster harvest monitoring; and other subjects encompassed by the above-cited rules.
