Overview



	The South Florida Water Management District announces a public meeting to which all persons are invited.

DATE AND TIME:	Wednesday September 30, 2026, 1:00 PM Corkscrew Watershed Initiative Public Meeting

PLACE:	Big Cypress Basin Service Center 2660 Horseshoe Drive North, Suite 101A Naples, FL 34104 Members of the public may participate and provide public comment in person or via Zoom, a media technology free for the public to use.

Subject:	The South Florida Water Management District is conducting a planning study known as the Corkscrew Watershed Initiative (CWI). The study commenced in March 2024, and the project objective is to develop a comprehensive strategy to achieve ecological restoration of the Corkscrew system by improving wetland hydrology and natural flows, while reducing flood risk and maintaining regional water availability. This public meeting will be held to share the findings of the CWI study and the proposed restoration plan. SFWMD staff along with representatives from local governments in the region and others with responsibility for the management of the Corkscrew Watershed have gathered data and identified potential viable short and long-term strategies to achieve the CWI objectives. The scope of the project involved developing restoration goals, performance measures and metrics, modeling existing and future conditions, and modeling various restoration alternatives. Collaboration with the public and stakeholders has been ongoing. A final project report will be provided in December 2026. The public and stakeholders will have an opportunity to view and comment during the public meeting in-person or by utilizing the following link: https://sfwmd.link/4bEA08a The link will go live at approximately 1:00 PM on September 30, 2026. One or more members of the Governing Board and the Big Cypress Basin Board of the South Florida Water Management District may attend this meeting. No Governing Board or Big Cypress Basin Board action will be taken.
