PURPOSE:

The purpose of the proposed rule amendment is to protect licensees, the general public and ecological resources from the risks associated with escapes and/or bites from venomous reptiles that are permitted for possession.  The effect of the proposed rule amendment would be to address qualifications of applicants, responsibility of licensees; caging, housing, handling, transportation and reporting requirements for venomous reptile licensees.

SUMMARY:

The proposed rule amendment increases the standards for possession of venomous reptiles to reduce the risk of escapes and bites.

RULEMAKING AUTHORITY:

Article IV, Section 9, Florida Constitution.

Article IV, Section 9, Florida Constitution n; Sections 379.303, 379.304, 379.305, 379.372, 379.373, 379.374, 379.3761, 379.3762 Florida Statutes.
