Course Requirements - Grades PK-12 Exceptional Student Education

PURPOSE:

To align course descriptions with the modified student performance standards. Course descriptions for Special Skills courses will be revised. Student performance standards for Social Studies Access Points-Alternate Academic Achievement Standards (AP-AAAS) Grades K-12 were adopted in May by the State Board of Education.

SUMMARY:

This rule contains Access courses for students with the most significant cognitive disabilities. Access courses are designed to provide students access to grade-level general instruction. Access Points are alternate academic achievement standards included in Access courses that target the salient content of Florida’s state academic standards. Access Points are intentionally designed to academically challenge students with the most significant cognitive disabilities.  The rule also contains Special Skills courses that address the needs of students with disabilities.
