RULE:

68-5.002	Definitions
68-5.007	Possession of Prohibited Non-Native Species

PURPOSE:

The purpose of the proposed rule amendments are to 1) provide practical and secure alternatives for outdoor caging for green iguanas; 2) establish collection and transport requirements for live, wild-caught green iguanas; 3) generally clarify and refine regulations related to transport and emergency preparedness of Prohibited reptiles; and 4) define the term “locked.”

SUMMARY:

The amendments proposed to Chapter 68-5, F.A.C. modify existing outdoor caging requirements to allow the use of dig barriers and/or closed-mesh wire for the outdoor enclosure walls, floors, and top, and the allowance of a primary enclosure with secondary containment in lieu of a double door safety entrance. The proposed amendments also clarify requirements for transport of Prohibited reptiles, emergency preparedness plans, and develop rules for collection and transport of wild-caught green iguanas. The proposed rule amendments also create a definition of “locked” as it pertains to transport, caging, and biosecurity for nonnative wildlife kept in captivity or transported after collection from the field or during transport from the permitted facility to another location.
