68A-25.052

Regulations Governing the Processing of Alligators and Sale of Alligator Meat, Carcasses, and Parts

PURPOSE:

The purpose of the proposed final rule amendment is to revise regulations regarding the labeling requirements for packaged alligator meat that has been processed by a licensed and permitted alligator meat processor so that they may use an alternative labeling option. Additionally, amendments include general rule clean-up to clarify existing rule language, including a new definitions subsection. The effect of the proposed final rule changes will be to improve bulk alligator meat processing operations at permitted alligator meat processing facilities and provide consistency and clarity in rule.

SUMMARY:

The proposed rule amendments are part of a programmatic review of the Alligator Management Program and the proposed changes are intended to improve alligator meat processing operations.
